    You should feature the Twitchhiker.

Paul, aka the Twitchhiker, has set off today from Newcastle in the North East of England hitchhiking around the world in aid of charity:water. The kicker is, he can only accept offers of travel or accomodations that he is offered from other twitter users who are following him.

    www.twitchhiker.com gives a lot more information :)

It's a small effort, but has helped a few people. I run http://nshrine.com/ a place where people can make shrines for various purposes, religious, emotional, or for fun. I used the twitter api to allow users to add candles to their, or other shrines via the @nshrine account. Different colors, intents and destinations can be used via commands detailed here: http://nshrine.com/help/twittercandles.html . Twitter users can even light candles for others and @nshrine will link those users to the candle.

It's self-promotion, but it's nto like I'm making huge money from it.

All @Twitter_Tips seems to do is answer tons of questions people DM to them, and provide helpful tips and links to timely news in their tweets. I don't think any account adds more value to the Twitter community. Really! (I'm surprised there aren't more accounts doing what they do, frankly.)

100% non-spammy as they don't have a product--or even a blog--to sell. All they seem to do 24x7 is tweet tips/news and answer questions from their followers.

You would be doing a great service to Twitter users by letting more people know about them! (And they are humble: I know they won the Shorty award for #tech but nowhere on their page do they mention it.)

And really, you can see what I mean just by looking at their tweets. (They answer most questions by DM so as not to clog up their stream for people.) They even fixed an image on my blog for me the other day! They are my go-to for all things Twitter.
  • Dave Larson · 9 months ago
I see I got here too late and someone already recommended us! My wife and I run @Twitter_Tips as a service to the Twitter community.

I worked in tech support for many years and decided to just start helping people from a seperate account some months ago, which has now grown to over 15K followers.

We try to tweet the most about the things people are asking us about or having problems with. We actually don't have time to do a blog because helping people via @Twitter_Tips takes so much of our time! I've tried to recruit some people to help but so far it's just my wife @SarahJL and me.

(Love your service! Hope Twitter buys you and drops that silly "Recommended Users" thing they are trying for new accounts.)
  • lemonadeliz · 9 months ago
My organization is new to twitter (Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation) so we are still working on our following, but one of our sponsors, Volvo cars is doing great things on twitter under the name of their new car Volvo X60. They are building a following of volvo lovers (like myself) who share favorite volvo stories. Also, they twitter about the XC60 tour of their new car that stops itself if you have your foot on the gas and it senses that you are about to rear-end someone (in case you are twittering in stop-n-go traffic and aren't paying attention:)). I thought it would be a boring twitter, but they are doing a great job with it!

    Mike Jaffe.

    Twitter: HumanWakeUpCall

As a 9/11 survivor that was 20 minutes late for work and walked out of the subway just in time to see the plane hit his building, desk, and kill all of his co-workers, Mike Jaffe changed his life in that second to honor his co-workers by helping others rewrite their tomorrow and make the most of every day.
  • mingyeow · 9 months ago
Hi Dee, Mike looks like he has a good story to share. Do you mind alerting
him to this post, and see if he would be interested in sharing his thoughts,
    particularly on Twitter?
    M
  • humanwakeupcall · 9 months ago
Hello M. I would be honored to share my story on Twitter and anywhere else you believe it will serve people. My path changed when I took the whell and started creating it instead of floating down the river waiting for life to happen to me. 9/11 was my wakeup call and now I do motivational speaking, workshops and coaching to be a human wakeup call for others so they dont waste any more precious time and start creating their personal and professional lives they way they really want them to be.

Twitter is just an amazing tool for helping to share little bites of motivation and inspiration (mini wakeup calls) to keep people moving and empowered amidst their day to day realities. It's too easy to get sucked into the daily stresses and wait to find time for things that really matter. But once you realize you need 'create' time for them (you'll never find it) you can start to take the small steps that will begin to change your life.

    Hi
We are currently using Twitter to help advanced, non-native English learners practise English expressions. We have a website that features a daily quiz on colloquial expressions and we use these and other phrases in our Tweets on English_Phrases at Twitter. We invite students to follow us to read our tweets. We encourage them to set up their own Twitter account and use new phrases in their own tweets. We then follow the student and RT @ any of their tweets that show good examples of the phrase in use. Only been going a week but we have nearly 300 followers and are following nearly 300 students and English teachers.
Having just discovered Twitter I must say it's great fun ... almost addictive! You can see our and our students' use of English phrases here:

Project Twenty1 is an organization dedicated to inspiring, networking, exhibiting, and promoting filmmakers, musicians, animators, and talent from all over the world. We are an all-volunteer organization that has been running since 2006.

As a part of our programming, we run a 21-Day Filmmaking Competition where filmmakers & animators from all over the world band together to create a film based on a common secret element. Completed films will screen theatrically as a part of the Project Twenty1 Film Festival in Philadelphia, and the top films will receive DVD distribution. As a bonus, we also submit all films to partner film festivals all over the world after the festival is over, thus saving Teams a whole lotta money and potentially getting them a lot of awards and prizes.

In addition, we hold large networking events to try to help our filmmakers' build their Teams, resources, and networks so they can make the best product possible! Although many of our Teams are from the Philadelphia area, last year we had Teams from Michigan, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom. We would like to ensure that we reach out globally through Mr. Tweet & Twitter in case they cannot make it to any of our "real life" events.

We plan to run our next Team-building campaign by promoting hashtagging #P21 to help filmmakers find other volunteers, build their teams, and have a safety net in case they run into trouble. Actress get sick and need a replacement? Hashtag it! On set and your electricity blows out? Hash tag it and hopefully someone can find you an electrician!

Our goal is to help filmmakers ask for help...because sometimes, that is a REALLY hard thing to do.

You can watch the documentary about us on www.ProjectTwenty1.com, follow us on www.twitter.com/projecttwenty1, or just drop me a line at stephanie [at] projecttwenty1.com

In addition to the 21-Day Filmmaking Competition, we are sponsoring an @earthhour event to promote Green filmmaking & help filmmakers network during Earth Hour 2009; actor seminars; "Show Your Shorts", which is like an open-mic night for films, and tons of other events! In the end, we can also use your help to just find more volunteers, since we are growing every day!

    We <3 U, Erica & Mr. Tweet!

@triggerstreet triggerstreet.com founded by Two Time Academy Award actor, producer Kevin Spacey and producer @danabrunetti has been reaching out and helping filmmakers and writers for years now with their online social network (some have referred to TriggerStreet as being one of the internet's first social networks) They have always striven to be on the cutting edge of technology and have now integrated twitter into their ever evolving site and community of artists. Kevin Spacey has said his goal was to send the elevator back down. TriggerStreet truly is paying it forward. I believe they are long overdue for recognition of their tireless efforts to help artists who would otherwise be lost in obscurity for lack of access to expose their talent.

I am asking for you to feature /me!

    @kevinbehr

I have been working to make an impact on the quality of life of IT workers for nearly 10 years. Twitter has extended the reach of this work and helped me find amazing partnerships!

Currently I have found twitter an amazing place to connect with folks and hear stories 140 chars at a time about their current reality. Some of which I have been given as grist for my blog novella about day to day life in IT.

I have received direct messages and public tweets telling me that I am helping them convince their bosses that they need to change the way they work. At least several times a week after my blog posts I get messages asking me if I have a camera on their wall or even if I am down the hall from them with encouragement to continue writing.

I have met new clients, but more importantly connected with a whole new universe of friends that is growing everyday.

I feels amazing to appreciate and to be appreciated!

    @Romeothecat

Romeo is a great choice because he is tweeting as a cat in order to raise funds for the Humane Society. In less than a month, he has acquired almost 2,000 followers (for each follower, he contributes 5 cents to HS). Romeo has been featured on the Humane Society website, nytimes.com and his local TV affiliate. He has also garnered the support and donations from pet companies such as FURminator.

Romeo is not tweeting as part of a job. He is just doing it for a good cause and the Twitter pet community has whole-heartedly embraced him. His tweets are a mix of good will messaging and kitty cat hijinks. Please check him out.

I'm going to suggest my iPhone app "StoryBook", as I feel it's my responsibility to do so.

Plus it's a Catch-22: If nobody knows about it.. well, you can infer the rest :)

It's a humble storytelling app that you can put your children, their friends, etc. in. It uses new words on each reading so that's got to be good for literacy levels. It's 'for kids' but to be honest I've had adult friends read the stories and be entertained- I like to write like that. Think Neil Gaiman meets Douglas Adams.

WebbChange is doing something cool - we have created a user defined social search engine - think wikipedia meets google meets facebook. We also like to say - if google and facebook had a baby, it would be WebbChange. We are officially launching at SXSW next week during the interactive show. So be patient - because the database is sparsely populated until we gain more user input.

WebbChange sends 4 tweets a day to its followers (2 in the morning and 2 in the evening) that will share top and random sites ranked by the public. The intent is to bring awareness to sites that users define, share and rank. WebbChange is the platform for capturing and sharing the public's opinion of whats valuable on the web and creating a system that allows people to find information more relevant to them by combining keyword search with profile filtering. Very powerful.

So if you wanted to find the top website tagged with dogs and pet sitting by females between the age of 30 and 40, living in California, that have an interest of Pets - WebbChange can store, share and retrieve this for you with our innovative SmartSearch feature. The robust functionality is available at our site - but we are using twitter to share with our followers sites valued, ranked and contributed by the community that the people otherwise wouldn't find.

not sure we are the type of thing you are looking for but were so pleased with the impact that twitter has been making to our group and the families we serve, thought we'd post about it.

@helpfindmychild is a small online volunteer group working with families of missing children, we started using twitter fairly recently to help raise the profile of missing or exploited children worldwide.

What we have found is the totally unexpected impact twitter would have the traffic to our sites emails and information that’s flowed as stories develop. Plus if we need assistance on cases the twitter community responds instantly in finding us the right kind person to link up with, its like having an extended family of helpers and friends - for example just yesterday the father of a missing child left us a message in Portuguese, we tweeted for translation help with in 10 mins a translator responded to assist How awesome is that!

Twitter has really integrated with us so well sure is down to the friendly community within who’ve been only too willing to lend a few minutes here and there for a neighbor in need.

@helpfindmychild we really do believe that 1 tweet could help bring a missing child home

    Thanks for your time!

    I'd like to nominate @jobshouts.

JobShouts.com is the first free job board to integrate social media as part of its delivery platform.

    Let's look at facts:

    1. Unemployment is high and people are utilizing their networks to obtain work. Including Twitter.

    2. There are employers out there that are still hiring and either aren't skilled in the use of social networks or don't have time to run active social network profiles. In addition, most employers are cutting back on the high cost of job postings on the major job boards.

    3. Twitter remains a virtually wide open platform for recruiting/networking for jobs.

In the 45 days since it's launch, JobShouts.com has garnered more than 1300 followers and more than 700 job postings from all over the globe, including jobs from Microsoft, IBM, Google, JP Morgan and more.

Each time a job is posted, it's tweeted. Even better, job seekers can create private profiles to allow them to receive a DM each time a job is posted that matches their criteria.

    JobShouts.com is global.

While we are still working on improvements and upgrades, we are fervent in our mission to give the "big job boards" a run for their money and give job seekers what they want: legitimate jobs without information compromise.

Since this is such a new venture, we're not sure yet of the results (i.e. actual hires) but the hiring process is often in excess of 30 days in most situations. Not to mention we get daily feedback from our followers that they are grateful to have the service.

Is it worth featuring by Mr. Tweet? We sure think so and I think a lot of our followers would agree. We'd love to tell you more! :)

I know it is "Tweeting my Horn" but after 40 years of being a student of Self Improvement and Fitness I decided to write a book about it. The goal was to establish the Mind/Fitness connection and give readers a real understanding of how your lifre can truly change. Knowledge puts you at Cause and lack of it puts you at Effect. The organization that Mr. Tweet should add first is the Prayer Child Foundation through Gold Canyon Candles. Monies earned through their Candles for Kids Selection go to support the Prayer Child Foundation. The Prayer Child Foundation is the companies organization that provides supportive services such as medical care, clothing, shelter, etc to children in need. Thus, the Prayer Child Foundation through Gold Canyon Candles should be nominated next.

I'd suggest @myartspace_blog he has interviewed over 500 artists since 2006 and is the editor for myartspace.com. Actually responds to questions about art on Twitter. I'd say he has done a lot for the online art community.

Just signed up to Twitter and Im unsure if Im able to nominate my own business but Im never afraid to self promote in the right ways! I have a pretty unique business helping the most precious premmie babies in Australia and abroad. We do this with providing a store to purchase almost no existant premmie products in abundance, supporting families with a blogging community and also a support forum.
The very personal experience of having a baby girl born at 27weeks gestation weighing 861grams = 1lb 14oz myself lead me to honor and support others who go through the premmie journey.

Not sure if I fit what your looking for but its always worth a try!

Looking forward to meeting heaps of new friends on twitter. My Twitter name is momentbymoment1
    Thanks

@documentaryfilm - updates on the day to day happenings of the groundbreaking new film, "An Inconvenient Tax". This film about taxes is almost finished and is set to shake America to it's core. Tweets about the film, the filmmaking process, outside news, and glimpses at the filmmaker's lives.
  • Palmer Wallace · 9 months ago
@documentary film should be featured because people need to hear about the real crisis that exists with the current tax system. No one will begin to full contest it, until there is a firm grasp on its history and why it is now infallible.

@documentaryfilm arouses the nation as a community. With inspiring tweets and hard work, this independent film company seeks to provide insight and enlightenment to a nation depressed by the economy and the ever-increasing bailout burden on the American taxpayer with the film "An Inconvenient Tax". They go further than complaining about the tax system but investigating the root of the problem and possible solutions. They use the social network of twitter to not only inspire others, but to motivate themselves with encouragement of their followers.

Hi there! I am new to the "Twitterverse", but got into it hoping to find other political activists. Since joining, I have been really kept informed politically by two people in particular. The first is Jonathan Hutson (@jhutsontweet) . He is a physician and human rights advocate. Lots of relevent, interesting news and information. Having been kept informed, I also need to laugh once in awhile. For really quick and clever humor, check out Demetri Martin (@FakeDemetri). I know, but it is the real one. Always good for a grin... or a head scratch!
Thanks for doing this, it is a super idea!

Dont let us down MR Tweet! Pay attention to those that will do great things not those who will sell great things!

I think @VAStateParks would be perfect for you to feature. We do alot in terms of land conservation in a time when more and more land is destroyed for commercialization. We have branched out to social networking sites to spread the word, which will hopefully generate more revenue, which then gets turned into more land that can be conserved for future generations to enjoy. It also gives customers the ability to activly communicate with Virginia State Parks. We hold occasional contests through social networking sites including Twitter.

@BavarianForest using Twitter to spread the word about this beautiful but almost completely unknown area of natural beauty right in the middle of Europe, mainly to bloggers and print journalists but also potential visitors. This is a place to experience unspoilt nature and diverse and fascinating history. We love it so much we bought 4 houses here and spend most of our time here. Obviously, it is good if people stay in our holiday apartments when they visit the area! Great success so far with TravelSavvyMoms, SlowEurope, bestholidaywebsites

I recommend @GlobalCoherence; they are teaching people all over the world to connect with their hearts to first achieve individual coherence and then to connect globally to affect the coherence of the Earth. This is being monitored scientifically and a very integrated process which will have even more positive effect the more people are involved. Their web site explains the process quite well. Also recommend @HumanityUnites another outstanding organization making positive change globally, and @HabitatGSF . I saw what Habitat for Humanity did in New Orleans and recommend them anywhere they are, but this is the only contact I have at present. Thank You!

And they have cool contests based on storytelling/writing!

I would like to suggest @ifbyphone., Even though I do work there, we do a great job of searching phone system related problems that the twitter public tweets about and in response, we resolve those problems with a followup blog. We use Twitter as "What has our attention" rather than "what are we doing" We tend to use it as a customer service tool.
